Japanese Friends

• In Nara (Japan), It was a pleasure to pose with Japanese high-school girls in their uniforms (1994). When I was in high school in Korea, Korean girls were dressed like this. Korea's Confucianism did not allow boys to pose with girls at that time. It was a pleasure to do it 40 years later.
  1. Nara 20 years later in 2014. I noticed Japanese girls wearing the uniforms I used to see when I was in Korea before 1954.
  2. Unlike my days in Korea, those Japanese girls gave me their greetings. In Korea before 1954, Koreans girls were too shy to look at the boys.
  3. Japanese boys in Nara in their high-school uniforms (2014). I told them I used to wear a similar uniform before 1954 before going to the United States. They asked me what I did in the U.S. I told them I received my PhD degree from Princeton University 7 years after my high school graduation, and I am a world authority in Yukawa Hideiki (the first Japanese Nobel in physics), they became fascinated. When I asked whether they like girls, they all said YES. I gave them this web address.

  7. At the Osaka Castle in Osaka, these Japanese girls wanted to look like red-horned devils. I had a photo with them.

• Japanese college students looking for boys. They are happy because they found one, but they have to find more (Osaka 2014).

• Japanese students in Seoul (2017). They became amused when I told them the building behind them used to be a Mitsukosi department store before 1945.

• Japanese students in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul (2017). I asked them which university they are attending. They said "Chuo University." I the said "Chuo Daigaku" in Japanese. They became very happy when I spoke Japanese. They came here to have photos with the statue of comfort woman. They are doing their research on what really happened during the war period (1939-45).

  3. They became very happy when told them I am a professor in the United States, and I am expert on Dr. Yukawa Hideki who was Japan's first Nobel laureate. Here is my webpage dedicated to Yukawa.

• Japanese student studying music in Vienna. We shared an AirFrance flight from Vienna to Paris (2001.11.5). She was visiting Japan to participate in concerts given by distinguished Japanese musicians. This photo was taken at the CDG Airport in Paris. From there, she took a JAL flight to Tokyo, and I took an AF flight to Washington. She was holding her red-colored Japanese passport, and I was carrying a heavy backpack.
  
  1. Japanese Student in Beijing. We met at a conference held in Shangxi Province. On our way home, we met again at an up-scale department store in Beijing (1995). We were wondering why Chinese ladies should look like European ladies.

  2. Japanese student studying ballet in Tokyo. I met her in the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden (London, 2004).
  3. Todai Student in Milan. Todai means something very special and privileged in Japan. It is the "University of Tokyo." I met this Todai student in July of 2002.
  4. Japanese Students in New York. This photo was taken in the lobby of the Hotel Pennsylvania at on the 7th Ave. and 32nd Street (November 2006).

  8. Japanese students in San Diego (2015). They were spending their spring vacation in U.S.A. Nice place to visit. One tall man in this photo is a Korean student.
  9. Japanese students from Osaka. I met them at Berlin's Brandeberg Gate Square in the evebing of December 31, 2015. They were among the people who came to this place to celebrate the Happy New Year.

• Hotel receptionist at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Kyoto (April 2014).
  1. Two young ladies in their Kimono at the Imperial Palace in Kyoto. They said their backs are more beautiful.

• Japanese Noodle House in Stockholm (Sweden). Japanese noodles are becoming very popular lunch items throughout the world. This Japanese lady was very busy, but was kind enough to have a photo with me (June 2005).
  1. Japanese Ladies in the Stockholm City Hall (June 2005). In this hall, every year on December 12, there is a dinner honoring the recipients of Nobel prizes.

  3. Japanese Lady in New York. She was spending her vacation week in New York. I met her at the lobby of the Hotel Pennsylvania (2002). When I asked where her husband is, she said "mikon desu" (not married). She told me she is not afraid of travelling alone.

  1. Japanese Lady in Budapest. She was sitting next to me on a bus along the Danube River (2003).
  2. Japanese Journalist in Naples (March 2005). She came from Nagoya.

  4. Japanese Ladies in Las Vegas (2012). They looked so young that I thought they were students. They said they are working for a financial company in Tokyo. I met them in the the Caesar Palace Forum, where people spend good time without gambling.

  5. Japanese Mother and Daughter in Rome (2010). I met them at the breakfast room of the Hotel Metropol near the Termini.
  6. Japanese ladies in Milan. I shared a dinner table with these Japanese ladies at an Italian restaurant in Milan (November 2003). They are mother and daughter. The mother studied American literature, and the daughter is studying business. Where is the father? He is a prominent lawyer in Japan and is very busy.
  7. Japanese mother and daughter in Las Vegas (2012). I met them in the Caesar Forum with expensive stores. They became delighted when I spoke Japanese.
  8. Japanese mother and daughter in Vienna (2013). I met them at the breakfast room in a hotel near St. Stephen's Plaza. Very cheerful ladies!
  9. Japanese mother with two young daughters. I met them at a hotel breakfast room in Fairfax, Vriginia (USA 2015).

• with Erico Tanaka (Japanese Physicist), at a Volga beach near Kazan (Russia 2010), while attending the Petrov Centennial Conference. A very romantic setting!
  1. Japanese Lady in Brazil. We had this photo at the Rio de Janeiro airport (May 2011). She came from Fukuoka.
  2. Japanese Ladies in Buenos Aires (May 2011). I met them at a Bulgarian festively held at the city center.
  3. Japanese reporters from the Ashahi TV. They came to a seminar on the U.S.-Korea FTA held in Washington (October 2011). Japanese are very sensitive to what happens in the relations between Korea and the United States.

  4. Two Japanese Professionals in New York (2013). We met at one of the Korean restaurants on 32nd Street (Korea Way). They seem to have their bright futures. It was a pleasure for me to speak Japanese to them. She was born in Japan, but her parents were Koreans. She is important person for an international company having offices in Tokyo and Utah (U.S.A.). I met her at a Delta business-class lounge at Tokyo's Narita Airport. We had many things in common, and we talked and talked until her boarding time.

  5. Japanese lady from Nara. I met her at the breakfast hall of the Hotel Metropol in Moscow (2016). A very couteous Japanese lady. She is highly educated, and I enjoyed talking with her.

  6. Two cheerful Japanese ladies at the breakfast room of the Hotel National in Moscow. This hotel is west the Red Square, and its breakfast room provides a spectacular view of the entrance to the Reds Square. This photo was taken in May of 2018.

• Japan Airlines, at the Charles De Gaul Airport in Paris (November 2004). It is always a pleasure to talk with Japanese ladies in Japanese. They were waiting for their return flight to Japan after spending a night in Paris. They also go to New York often. I asked them where they stay in New York. They said the Helmsley Hotel. There are several Helmsleys Hotels in Manhattan, but I forgot to ask which one. All of them are expensive. Japan is a rich country! In spite of what mass media say about Japan and Korea, these two countries share the same cultural origin. When I talk with Japanese ladies, they sound like my sisters.
  1. In 2018, in Wurzburg (Germany), I met four of the JAL ladies at the palace museum. and had this photo with three of them. One of them should operate the camera.
  2. We then took this photo to include the lady who took the first photo.
  3. About four hours later, I met a larger group the JAL ladies at the town center of Wurzburg, including those four I met before. They were with a a senior-looking lady. I asked them whether she is the "Oyaboon." The Oyaboon in Japanese means the head of a gangster group, but this word is also used as a friendly word.
  4. I then had a photo with this Oyaboon.

• All Nippon Airways in front of the Crown Plaza Hotel in Vienna, Virginia (August 2009). After one night's rest, they were ready to go to a nearby shopping center. This photo was taken by their colleague who also deserved a photo. with me.

  2. Another group of ANA ladies at the Crown Plaza Hotel. It was a pleasure to have a photo with a large number of Japanese ladies (2015).

     It was a pleasure to exchange pleasant words with them in Japanese. The only agony for me was I am a very senior person to these young ladies. These young ladies came to the Dulles Int'l Airport (serving the Washington area) from Tokyo and stay at this hotel for two nights before returning to Japan.
