I met this lady working as a tour guide for Korean tourists in Germany. This photo was taken at the Goethe Museum in Frankfurt in 2012.

She went to Germany from Korea in 1973 as a nurse. Indeed she was one of those early immigrants to Germany. This group consisted of women, and there were no Korean men who went with them. You could imagine how lonely they were, and how much they missed their fatherland.

After the Korean war, many Korean students went to the United States, and I am one of them. I remember those difficult days. She thought we were in the same boat, and we decided have a photo together.

After the first shot, she complained that we were not close enough to express the feelings of those early days. We then decided to have the second photo.
