• Toyotomi Hideyosi is a very important person in the history of Japan. He brutally eliminated his rival warlords and unified Japan into one country.

  Japanese thought he looks like a monkey (O-Saru-san), how did he look to himself?

  After unifying Japan, Toyotomi Hideyosi appeared to himself as the emperor of the world.

• He appointed himself as the emperor and attempted to position himself in Beijing (center of the world to him at his time). He then asked Koreans to provide his safe passway from Japan to China. Koreans said "Nyet" to him. Thus, he sent 150,000 Japanese troops to the Korean Peninsula. Those Japanese troops slaughters Koreans and burnt down all Korean installations for seven years until he died in 1598. They kidnapped many Korean scholars and technicians.

  Japanese started the their version of Confucianism (called Shushigaku in Japanese) with those Korean Confucian scholars. They also kidnapped many ceramic technicians from Korea to start their own ceramic industry. These are well documented in history books.

  My grandfather told me that they learned how to make bean cakes (dofu in Japanese, dubu in Korean) from Koreans.
