How does NK government keep their agents from making contacts with "outsiders" in Moscow?

Paik Sun-Yup is well known among Koreans as a general who played the key role in defending the city of Daegu during the Korean War. He stopped the advance of the N.K. army at the village called Dabudong. However, he was accused of his background in the Japanese army while Korea was under Japanese control until 1945.

The story of his Dabudong battle is well known, but there is a more important story about him. He was pro-Korean. How pro-Korean was he? Click here for a story.

Dr. Kim Myung-Sun made the following three contributions to the Korean medical system.

1. Korean nurses used to go through two-years of vocational training, and they were treated as maids in hospitals. Dr. Kim was responsible for elevating those nursing schools to nursing colleges. During the 1960s, many Korean nurses went to Germany with their college degrees.

2. He made his medical school as the medical college of a single university, even though his Severance Medical College had a longer history than Yonhee University. After this unification, Yohee became Yonsei.

3. In 1946, there was a cholera endemic throughout Korea. Koreans had to build a public health system starting from nothing. Dr. Kim Myung-Sun, with the assistance from the American military administration, constructed the first public health system. These days, the Korean system is admired by the entire world.

Dr. Kim was 15 years older than my father. Those Koreans who know me and know about him think he was my grandfather. In fact, he was like my grandfather to me.

With knowledge of all these Korean medical professions, what do you think of the current doctor's walkout in Korea during this COVID pandemic? I keep thinking Hippocratic oath they took to become a doctor. Am I thinking wrong?

Nice to hear from you. Koreans are great people. However, they become stupid and selfish after they become educated. You hear or read about the bulls going on among the lawyers in the Korean government. Korean medical doctors are also highly educated people. What do you expect from them?

When my uncle carried out his reforms (college degrees for nurses, and unifications of Yonhee and Severance), he had to face strong oppositions from his Severance colleagues.

With their college degrees, nurses will not be obedient to doctors. Severance is a world-class medical school, but Yonhee is only the No.2 university in Korea. How can Severance go under Yonhee?

My uncle was able to carry our his plans because he had a dictatorial control at his medical school.

Vietnam was a province of French Indochina until 1940. Japanese army moved in with their slogan "Aziajin-no-Azia" (Asia for Asians). After 1945, French colonialists came back to Vietnam, but they had to face an armed resistance from Vietnamese led by Ho Chi Minh. The decisive battle took place at the French fortress at Dien Ben Phu in 1954.

The question is how Ho Chi Minh organized his army strong enough to defeat the French army equipped with the arms supplied by the United States?

Of course, those Vietnamese troops had a clear ideology that Vietnam belongs to Vietnamese. Is this ideology enough to construct an army? They needed military professionalism. How did they get it. Many Japanese officers who believed in "Aziajin-no-Azia" stayed in Vietnam after the surrender of their country in August of 1945. They provided the organization and battle skills to Ho Chi Minh's troops.

In Korea, all Japanese troops were sent back to Japan after 1945. However, there were enough Koreans who received military training from the Japanese army. Those Koreans constituted the starting point of the present-day Korean army. During the first days of the Korean War in 1950, they put up a credible resistance to the heavily armed N.Korean troops. This was one of the major reasons why Americans decided to come to Korea.

It is not right for Koreans to punish those who served in Japanese army. They reached the ranks of officers in the Japanese army because they were talented. Unless Koreans give up their "culture" of punishing their own talented people, Korea will never become a respected country.

If we use the Korean logic, Ho Chi Minh was a pro-Japanese traitor.

Harry Truman made three history-making decisions during his presidency (1945-53). First, to drop nuclear bombs on two Japanese cities in 1945. Second, to send American troops to Korea as a police action sponsored by the United Nations (1950). Third, to fire Douglas MacArthur (1951).

Until 1920, Korean boys were not allowed to talk to Korean girls (Confucian tradition). These days, they talk too much. This transition took place from 1920 to 1960. During the early years of this period, many Korean writers wrote romance stories. Their names are now completely forgotten except one person. His name is Yi Kwang-Su.

Many Koreans literature people are wondering why, and one of them told me Yi was interested in Russian literature, and his romance stories are variations of Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karerina. If this is the case, Koreans and Russians share the same romance biology.
