PostDoc Position

The independent research group (European Research Council Starting Grant) 'Massive Neutrinos: Investigating their Theoretical Origin and Phenomenology' offers a PostDoc position in theoretical Neutrino Physics at the Max-Planck-Institut fur Kernphysik in Heidelberg.

The emphasis will be on the study of the implications of neutrino physics on Grand Unified Theories, leptogenesis, lepton flavor violation, cosmology etc. The position is for two years (starting autumn 2009) with the possibility of renewal for another year, depending on performance and availability of funding. Salary and benefits are commensurate with public service organizations (TVoD Bund).

The ideal candidate is expected to have a PhD degree in theoretical solid state physics. Postdoc Position in Theoretical Particle Physics

The II. Institute for Theoretical Physics of the Physics Department of the University of Hamburg will have a 2-year postdoc position available beginning in fall 2009. The position is part of the junior research group "SUSY Phenomenology -- From the Early Universe to the LHC Era". The research program of the group includes

The group belongs to the Collaborative Research Center 676 "Particles, Strings and the Early Universe" funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG) and comprising both theoretical and experimental groups from the University of Hamburg and DESY with a wide range of research interests in particle physics, string theory and cosmology.

The successful applicant will be compensated according to the German civil service pay scale (E 13 TV-L). He or she will be expected to work an average of 39 hours per week and will be located on the DESY campus.

The rules for MPG Independent Junior Research Groups apply to the selection process. The two groups will be located on the campus of Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH). The fields of research envisaged are

The two groups will strengthen the scientific in-house program of the APCTP. The Center has thirteen membership countries and is serving their Physics communities by organizing schools, workshops, training programs etc. Strong links exist to the Physics Department of POSTECH. The group leaders are expected to use also the links to renown research centers in the Asia Pacific region to which the APCTP has close relations. The group leaders will be jointly appointed as Adjunct Professors of the Department of Physics of POSTECH with access to students and other resources.

We offer positions for 5 years on a salary which corresponds to an exceptional Assistant Professor. Funds are available for 1 - 2 postdoctoral fellows, 1 - 2 guests and 1 - 2 PHD students for each group which shall be recruited by the group leaders. are seeking outstanding candidates for Postdoctoral Positions in Theoretical Physics

Two Independent Junior Research Groups for Modern field theoretical methods in condensed matter physics (Leader: Prof. Xin Wan) and Multiscale modeling in condensed matter physics (Leader: Prof. Xin Zhou) have been newly set up at APCTP jointly with Max-Planck-Gesellschaft and POSTECH. The JRGs now have a few openings for both short-term and long-term postdoctoral positions.

We are looking for the candidates from physics, chemistry, computer science and related fields. The successful candidates will join two JRGs consisting of postdocs, guest scientists, and students to work as a group on the further development of theories and modeling in condensed matter, biological systems and related fields at APCTP. The candidates for the multiscale modeling group should have good experiences and publications on atomistic or mesoscopic molecular dynamics simulations. Knowledge on the source codes of one of general atomistic simulation software packages and experiences on simulations of biological macromolecules are advantageous but not always required.

The APCTP is located on the campus of Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) in Pohang, Korea. The Center has twelve membership countries and is serving their physics communities by organizing schools, workshops, training programs, etc. Strong links exist to the Physics Department of POSTECH. The group members are expected to use also the links to joint research institutes in the Asia Pacific region and some Max Planck institutes to which the APCTP has close relations.

Two Postdoctoral Positions in Gravitational Wave Physics

The Theoretical Astrophysics section of the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Tuebingen (IAAT) has an opening for at least two (2) postdoctoral research positions starting anytime from 1st of January 2008. The positions will be funded via the SFB/TR7 network on "Gravitational Wave Astronomy" (http://wwwsfb.tpi.uni-jena.de/).

The research activities of the section ?Theoretical Astrophysics? are related to the study of sources of gravitational waves with emphasis on the dynamics of neutron stars.

The successful applicants will carry out original research in projects regarding the study of the dynamics of neutron stars in relation to the emission of gravitational waves.

In particular, for one of the positions, the candidates are expected to have a track record on the study of the dynamics of strongly magnetized neutron stars.

The positions are limited to two years with a possible extension for one more year and the salary will be paid according to the German public service scale.
